Questions about balancing a checkbook

Why do the two sides differ?

Usually because something has happened on one side and not the other yet: a deposit you made that the bank has not shown, a check you wrote that has not cleared, or a fee or interest the bank added that you have not entered in your register. Once both sides cover the same events, they match.

What is an outstanding check?

A check or withdrawal you have written and recorded, but your bank has not yet paid and cleared. It still counts as spent in your register, but it will not appear on the statement until it clears.

Is anything I type saved?

No. Everything stays in your browser for this one visit only. Nothing is sent to a server, and nothing is written to a cookie or to storage, so leaving the page clears it.

The app does this for you, every statement

Free to try. $9.99 once to keep writing. The app is a free download and everything works from the first day — entries, reconciling, search, recurring bills, transfers, export and backup. It asks for the one-time $9.99 after you balance your first statement, or after 100 entries, whichever comes first.
